I've seen a number of people worried and concerned about this language on Ao3s current "agree to these terms of service" page. The short version is:
Don't worry. This isn't anything bad. Checking that box just means you forgive them for being US American.
Long version: This text makes perfect sense if you're familiar with the issues around GDPR and in particular the uncertainty about Privacy Shield and SCCs after Schrems II. But I suspect most people aren't, so let's get into it, with the caveat that this is a Eurocentric (and in particular EU centric) view of this.
The basic outline is that Europeans in the EU have a right to privacy under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), an EU directive (let's simplify things and call it an EU law) that regulates how various entities, including companies and the government, may acquire, store and process data about you.
The list of what counts as data about you is enormous. It includes things like your name and birthday, but also your email address, your computers IP address, user names, whatever. If an advertiser could want it, it's on the list.
The general rule is that they can't, unless you give explicit permission, or it's for one of a number of enumerated reasons (not all of which are as clear as would be desirable, but that's another topic). You have a right to request a copy of the data, you have a right to force them to delete their data and so on. It's not quite on the level of constitutional rights, but it is a pretty big deal.
In contrast, the US, home of most of the world's internet companies, has no such right at a federal level. If someone has your data, it is fundamentally theirs. American police, FBI, CIA and so on also have far more rights to request your data than the ones in Europe.
So how can an American website provide services to persons in the EU? Well… Honestly, there's an argument to be made that they can't.
US websites can promise in their terms and conditions that they will keep your data as safe as a European site would. In fact, they have to, unless they start specifically excluding Europeans. The EU even provides Standard Contract Clauses (SCCs) that they can use for this.
However, e.g. Facebook's T&Cs can't bind the US government. Facebook can't promise that it'll keep your data as secure as it is in the EU even if they wanted to (which they absolutely don't), because the US government can get to it easily, and EU citizens can't even sue the US government over it.
Despite the importance that US companies have in Europe, this is not a theoretical concern at all. There have been two successive international agreements between the US and the EU about this, and both were struck down by the EU court as being in violation of EU law, in the Schrems I and Schrems II decisions (named after Max Schrems, an Austrian privacy activist who sued in both cases).
A third international agreement is currently being prepared, and in the meantime the previous agreement (known as "Privacy Shield") remains tentatively in place. The problem is that the US government does not want to offer EU citizens equivalent protection as they have under EU law; they don't even want to offer US citizens these protections. They just love spying on foreigners too much. The previous agreements tried to hide that under flowery language, but couldn't actually solve it. It's unclear and in my opinion unlikely that they'll manage to get a version that survives judicial review this time. Max Schrems is waiting.
So what is a site like Ao3 to do? They're arguably not part of the problem, Max Schrems keeps suing Meta, not the OTW, but they are subject to the rules because they process stuff like your email address.
Their solution is this checkbox. You agree that they can process your data even though they're in the US, and they can't guarantee you that the US government won't spy on you in ways that would be illegal for the government of e.g. Belgium. Is that legal under EU law? …probably as legal as fan fiction in general, I suppose, which is to say let's hope nobody sues to try and find out.
But what's important is that nothing changed, just the language. Ao3 has always stored your user name and email address on servers in the US, subject to whatever the FBI, CIA, NSA and FRA may want to do it. They're just making it more clear now.

If the client is unsatisfied with the commission Post-Line Art, the artist is willing to discuss and make minor edits as stated prior (e.g. adjusting colors). The Polish Supreme Court's Pro-Transgender Ruling
Tumblr media
The Polish Supreme Court has issued a landmark ruling simplifying the process for individuals seeking to change their legally recognized gender, Notes from Poland reports.
Previously, Polish law required people to file lawsuits against their parents to pursue gender recognition, even as adults. The Court’s decision declares that such cases should now fall under “non-litigious proceedings,” eliminating the need to designate parents as defendants.
Lead Judge Agnieszka Jurkowska-Chocyk explained that gender recognition is not a dispute between opposing parties but a personal process, making the previous legal framework unnecessary.
The ruling has been lauded as “groundbreaking” by Equality Minister Katarzyna Kotula, who emphasized its significance in reducing discrimination and safeguarding families.

HAII!!!HAII HEEO HELLO!!!!
AHEMM
How about a looey x scientist!reader? :3 like when the reader is doing an experiment, and then looey comes into her lab suddenly making the experiment go boom, reader gets mad at looey, afterwards she goes to apologise to him and happy ending! Hooray!! :D
I JUST LOVE HUM SM AND THERES RARELY X READERS OF HIM
DO IT AND MY LIFE IS YOURSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS💜💜💜 (NOT FORCING!! :D)
The man responsible for ending 50% of my runs. Fuck this man in particular. Wikipedia saved my ass because I haven't actually bought this character yet in the game lol.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think you were supposed to mix that.
Looey x Scientist Reader.
Regrettably, one of my shorter ones. Mostly because I fucking hate this guy. /Affectionate
Reminder that I write in 2nd person, so gender remains ambiguous.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"M'kay, can you go stand over there?"
You had managed to get a toon that you weren't familiar with to participate in one of your experiments. Was it legal? Maybe. Was it ethically questionable? Absolutely! Did you care? No, you had them sign paperwork saying it was okay.
The reindeer looked at you quizzically as you gave them the instruction. "Uh, this will make my nose glow brighter, right?"
"Possibly!"
The reindeer looked at you slightly stunned before shrugging. "Anything for Christmas!"
The reindeer stood on a platform that was way too complicated to explain in one paragraph, so to simplify: Big machine does cool thing.
You looked down at your tablet as you make sure the chemicals you were about to inject into his nose was actually going to make his nose glow brighter.
"Okay, so this is a very delicate process." You begin to explain. "So I need you to stay extremely still to ensure your safety, understood?"
"Got it!" The reindeer replied, attempting to give you a thumbs up, only to fail halfway through. He awkwardly lowered his arm as you began to press buttons on your tablet, with mechanical arms with the chemicals lowered towards his nose. Would this be a safer procedure if you did it yourself? Sure, but you wanted to give this a shot.
Also, because you didn't trust the chemicals to not explode.
You were carefully directing the arms towards his nose, ready to inject the chemicals to give this reindeer a glow up.
At least, you would have. If the circus hadn't just showed up.
"Hi scientist!"
Your finger slips as it suddenly and forcefully injects the reindeer's nose, causing Santa's animal to reel back in pain stumbling back into a couple of experimental machines, knocking things down.
Your water that you keep on a desk so conveniently ends up falling onto one of these machines, causing an electrical fire. The furry animal quickly retreats upon seeing this, staring in shock as months of building and perfecting comes crashing down. Losing tons of scientific research due to chemicals falling onto your research papers you were supposed to give to your caretakers.
Looey stands there both stunned and awkwardly.
"Uh... Oops?" He smiles weakly.
"Everyone get out of the lab!" You yell, quickly earning a response from both living specimen in the lab who quickly does as their told a bails out of the lab.
You quickly go grab your fire extinguisher and put out the fire. Assessing the damage, you can determine that it wasn't really... Good. Your Ichor experiments had just been ruined, destroyed even.
You sigh, rubbing your forehead. "Looey..." You mutter under your breath. You were annoyed with them; they had just barged into your experiment and ruined years' worth of research! You were so focused into completing what the caretakers wanted to do, and now he just barged in and ruined everything!
You- You!
You forgot to put your red light on.
The red light indicating that you were in the middle of something important.
You facepalm yourself, feeling stupid. It wasn't his fault, this felt like something out of a cartoon. Ironic because you were called toons.
You exit the lab, seeing one slightly nervous balloon person and one livid reindeer person.
"Why would you just barge in like that?!" The reindeer yells, making Looey slightly more uncomfortable with the situation.
"S-Sorry! I really didn't mean to, I didn't know!" Looey attempts to justify, leaving the reindeer slightly more furious.
"That doesn't excuse that!"
"Yes it does." You butt in, leaving no room for argument. The two look at you. "It's my fault, I really should have had a 'in testing' kind of thing going on. That's on me."
Looey lets out a small sigh of relief. "Still though, I'm really sorry for barging in like that."
"No problem." You wave off.
"Uh, no?! Big problem, my nose still really hurts!" The reindeer yells, pointing at his nose.
You chuckle a bit. "At least it's glowing a bit brighter, like ya asked for." You said, pointing towards a mirror.
He tilts his head, his previous anger evaporating for a moment as he goes to look in the mirror, only to see his nose glowing brighter.
"Oh, sweet! Thank you, scientist, I owe you one!" He says running off suddenly. You have to hand it to him; his energy shows no bounds.
You turn to Looey, who smiles at you. "It's good to see you!" He exclaims. You nod, returning the smile.
"It's nice to see you too, Loo." You look to the lab, slightly disappointed but undeterred. Looeys happy expression falters as he catches at what you were gazing at.
"I really am sorry for barging in like that." He fiddles with his ears, tugging on them slightly. You wave your hand at him dismissively.
"It's not your fault; I should have had the indicator on." Despite your tone, you were slightly still angry with him. How could you not? He had accidentally ruined so much progress. Either way, you wouldn't hold it against him.
"Anyway, let's get off of all the depressing stuff," he attempts to wave off further, "howzabout we go to my circus troupe? We've got a really great act coming up soon, and we wanted a second opinion!"
You let out a sigh. "Sure, buddy. Sounds fun."

Double Indemnity, Spellbound and how a retroactive plot twist kicked the communities ass (which also has some VERY interesting implications for Aventio)
I had a very enlightening conversation on TikTok about the nature of these two romance/thrillers, and while unfortunately, I have no idea how to watch them, the plot synopses I’ve seen and analysis other people have made have caused me to come to this conclusion/interpretation of these references:
On the first viewing of the Double Indemnity questline, the reference to the DI movie is meant to be played straight, with Aventurine and Ratio being just as doomed to fail as they are in the movie, and their relationship as equally as toxic and fake.
On second viewing, it’s the complete opposite, and the track (and other movie reference) you receive at the end, Spellbound, proves it.
Let’s start with Double Indemnity.
Also disclaimer I’m gonna be over simplifying the plot/themes of these movies because a) both are singular references, DI is only referenced in the name of the quest itself and Spellbound is only referenced in a track you receive once you complete DI, and references this small probably aren’t meant to be anything more than a fun Easter egg for those who notice it b) this is hoyoverse they aren’t clever enough for that anyways c) the nature of references isn’t going to be having everything be the exact same anyways, so I’m just going to go with the overall interpretation of DI + Spellbound/their impact, picking the stuff which aligns with the actual plot of the DI quest, I don’t care what happens in one frame at 30:01.56 minutes in and neither do the writers
Anyways, how does the Double Indemnity reference on the first viewing seem?
On our first play through of the Double Indemnity quest, we are made to believe that Dr. Ratio and Aventurine do not trust each other, but they are begrudgingly working together for the sake of stealing Penacony for the IPC. Then, Aventurine makes it seem as if he wishes to use the singer Robin’s- also the sister of Sunday, the head of the Oak Family and the one they are negotiating with- death as a means to pressure Sunday into forking over some of the Family’s secrets, which Aventurine will then use against him in future negotiations.
With this setup, the Double Indemnity reference is a solemn warning- Aventurine and Ratio will fail.
You see, in the movie, Phyllis Dietrechson intends to kill her husband in order to earn the money from the Double Indemnity clause (which is a real legal thing btw!), roping in one Walter Neff when he falls for her. However, their relationship isn’t stable and in the end, Walter betrays Phyllis, ratting her out to the investigator Keyes, ultimately meaning they don’t earn the DI clause, also killing Phyllis in the process.
Hopefully you can already see where I’m going with this, but it’s time to draw some fun parallels.
Sunday is Keyes, Ratio is Walter, Aventurine is Phyliss and Robin is Phyliss’s husband.
Although Aventurine a) isn’t married to Robin and b) he didn’t actually kill her, he is the one who witnessed her “death” and in the first viewing of the Double Indemnity quest, we are made to believe he intends to profit off of it, although this time the payout isn’t money: it’s Penacony.
To do this, he enlists the help of Ratio- albeit not seducing him, but still convincing him to help nonetheless- and together they go to meet Sunday for negotiations.
However, Ratio “betrayed” Aventurine, ratting him out to Sunday behind his back and informing him of his plan, which mirrors how Walter confesses to Keyes. This results in Aventurine being sentenced to death, much like how Phyllis dies by Walter’s hand, Aventurine seems like he will die by Ratio’s, calling him a wretch before slinking off.
And there you go, their partnership is as doomed as the one in the movie, failing because their trust + love didn’t hold up till the end, a devious foreshadowing.
At least, that’s how it seems on the first playthrough.
Because Aventurine and Ratio’s plan SUCCEEDS.
And on the second viewing, knowing that the betrayal is fake, you realize they succeed because they do the one thing the people in DI (and I’ll get to Spellbound) DONT do- they actually TRUST each other.
Ratio and Aventurine’s plot is a success. And it’s because they deliberately made it seem like they were doing a Double Indemnity plot. Like they were going to make the same mistakes as the characters in the movie. Sunday falls for the false appearance hook, line and sinker, and that’s his downfall.
They win because they TRUST each other, you can even say because they actually LOVE each other, unlike the characters in the movie, where it’s more list than anything else. Walter and Phyllis don’t make it together to the end but Ratio and Aventurine DO, and they get to continue on with their lives because of it. The reference to Double Indemnity in this quest is genius because it works both before and after you learn the retroactive twist of Penacony. It makes you believe Aventurine + Ratio are doomed to fail, and it makes you realize they were always going to succeed, expertly dawning the false appearances Sunday expects from them, becoming literal actors playing out the roles of two people who will fall short due to their selfishness. Sunday believes he’s seen this film before which is why he BUYS IT, and god it’s just beautiful looking back on it. He thinks he’s Keyes about to uncover a dastardly plot to profit off his sisters death, and in turn he paints Ratio and Aventurine with the identities of those he believes would do such a thing, which they do their best to play into. Ugh it’s amazing.
And now, for Spellbound.
Tumblr media
You receive this track after completing Double Indemnity, containing the description above.
Now, this is a reference to Spellbound, another one of Hitchcock’s films.
The main characters in this one are Dr. Anthony Edwards, a man suffering from amnesia, and Dr. Constance Peterson, a psychoanalyst who he was meant to replace, who discovers a dark secret about Edward’s while they fall for one another; he’s an imposter. He believes he killed the real Dr. Edward’s, but she thinks he’s just suffering from a guilt complex. Fake Edward’s goes missing, and the real Edward’s assistant arrived and informs them that he’s missing. She finds Fake Edward again, living under the pseudonym John Brown, and although he tries to leave, she convinces him to stay, telling him that with the help of her mentor, psychoanalysis can help recover his lost memories.
Through an incredibly complicated psychoanalysis of dream, Constance begins to uncover the truth- learning the person who believes himself to be Dr. Edward’s (and is using the pseudonym John Brown) is actually a man named John Ballantyne. Ballantyne accidentally caused the death of his younger brother in the past, resulting in his deep guilt, as well as recalling the location where the real Edwards died- skiing off a cliff to his death. With his memories, they find the body, but it has a bullet wound, so Ballantyne is taken into custody.
However, her boss, Dr. Murchison lets it slip that he actually used to know (and didn’t like) Dr. Edwards, and through another complicated sequence gets him to confess his guilt and ultimately kill himself, which frees Ballantyne, ending the movie with the two going on a honeymoon.
So, what does this mean in the context of the quest line?
Well, let’s say Ballantyne and Constance are representative of Ratio and Aventurine respectively.
“Every psychoanalyst must first have someone else diagnose them.”
If we read Aventurine as the psychoanalyst (Constance) and Ratio as the diagnoser/doctor (Ballantyne), it reveals an interesting interpretation.
That being that they knew the truth from the start/ they had already succeeded.
Or in other words, unlike in Double Indemnity, in Spellbound, they actually succeed.
In the film, Constance is the one doing the diagnosing, the one trying to figure out the truth, and you can see that in Aventurine pretending he’s trying to find out the truth behind Robin’s death. However, in the DI quest, it’s the opposite. Ratio’s as Ballantyne is the one doing the diagnosing for the psychoanalysist, Constance, or rather, Aventurine.
To diagnose someone, you must be very familiar with them, or at the very least the ailment plaguing them, and Ratio he knows Aventurine through and through at the start, and what plagues him (his own sense of meaninglessness) unlike the protagonists in Spellbound who despite falling for one another quickly, don’t begin being intimately familiar with one another.
In this way, they have already succeeded. Aventurine and Ratio already know one another, and while they might not know the reason behind Robin’s death, that was never what they were searching for in the beginning, meaning they effectively can skip through all the drama (aka the ups and downs of Spellbound, finding out the truth behind Robin’s/Edwards’ death), and reach their happy ending- a honeymoon; or in DI’s case, Aventurine attaining his cornerstone, and fulfilling his end of the plan.
Interestingly, Aventurine slots into the role of Ballantyne and Ratio as Constance equally well, with the phone call Constance makes to save Ballantyne being reminiscent of the note Ratio makes to save Aventurine, as well as Aventurine being the replacement, or in the sense, the one to find the truth about Robin.
Personally, I think Aventurine and Ratio are reminiscent of both the main leads in Spellbound, which is why it’s complicated to discern the meaning of the reference. Oh how I wish I knew what the original Chinese description for this was (if you do please tell me 🙏).
Is it just meant to signify them being in love? Is it meant to signify that they will succeed, due to how well they know each other? Is it both, which is what the inclusion of Double Indemnity (the movie) suggests?
Either way, it adds onto the already present idea that the trust between Aventurine and Ratio is what allowed them to succeed in Penacony, and that’s not just something expressed by these movie references.
Think Aventurines Eidolons: Stag Hunt Game and Prisoner’s Dilemma, both of which are game theories about trust. Or how Aventurine says that Ratio knows him best, or how Ratio entrusts Aventurine with close secrets of his, like him being the “Genius” of the council of Mundanites.
“Do you trust me?” “That depends on you.”
These are 2 lines in their 2.0 conversation that really stick out to me. Ratio will always offer his trust so long as Aventurine can prove himself worthy of it, and as we have seen, Aventurine always delivers, proving himself long before Penacony in the Final Victor lightcone, albeit in his weird homoerotic way.
Therefore Ratio will always trust him.
And because of that, they win.
Now whether you take the deep trust between them to be romantic or platonic, or infer the literal honeymoon at the end of Spellbound to mean something for Aventio, either way the feeling absolutely there, and it’s crucial for an understanding of their relationship.
Also damn, the retroactive plot twist fucking slaps.

UK: Court Ruling Threatens Trans People
Judgment Opens Door for Discrimination, Segregation, and Exclusion
Tumblr media
(London) – A United Kingdom Supreme Court ruling on April 16, 2025, threatens the rights of trans people, Human Rights Watch said today. In For Women Scotland v. The Scottish Ministers, the court ruled that “sex” in UK law refers to a person’s sex assigned at birth.
The UK has issued gender recognition certificates since 2005, recognizing legal gender changes and enabling people to change documents such as birth certificates and passports. But the court decision, and the UK authorities’ reaction, have undermined the gender recognition certificates. Authorities’ interpretations of the judgment effectively forced trans people to use sex-segregated public services and facilities according to their sex-assigned at birth, and contrary to their identity and appearance. Trans people can also avoid using these services and facilities altogether, or be forced to use segregated facilities, posing risks to their safety and human rights.
“The judgment in For Women Scotland v. The Scottish Ministers is severely regressive,” said Yasmine Ahmed, UK director at Human Rights Watch said. “While implementing this ruling, authorities across the UK should protect trans people’s rights by ensuring that services and facilities remain accessible, inclusive, and safe for everyone.”
The case concerned the Scottish Government’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill, which aimed to simplify the process for individuals to obtain legal recognition of their gender by removing the requirement for a medical diagnosis of “gender dysphoria.” The Supreme Court concluded that the only acceptable legal definition of “sex” is the biological sex assigned to a person at birth, and that no adjustments to that legal designation should be recognized by law, even if the person has a gender recognition certificate. The Supreme Court said that the rights of trans people are separately protected from discrimination under the Equalities Act 2010, regardless of whether they have a gender recognition certificate, but it failed to enumerate how that protection can be effectively implemented.
In effect, the court ruling has led to authorities prohibiting trans people from entering single-sex spaces that align with their gender identity even if they have received official recognition of their gender from the government. The Equality and Human Rights Commission issued guidance on the judgment without adequate consultation, further entrenching the idea that trans people should only be treated according to their sex assigned at birth. The ruling has led to authorities excluding trans people from single-sex spaces that align with their gender identity and treating them in such circumstances as having the gender that corresponds to their assigned sex at birth.
The ruling also comes in the context of an often toxic debate about trans rights in the UK, in which trans people are portrayed as a threat to the safety of others and their views and lived experience are ignored, Human Rights Watch said.

Jay Kuo at The Status Kuo:
It’s Friday, so once again we’re talking about how the Trump White House just attacked Harvard. As I reviewed the actions by the government and Harvard’s response, I realized this was a great opportunity for everyone to brush up on administrative and constitutional law. Exciting, right? First, a simplified review of what happened. Harvard is locked in a battle with the White House for refusing the government’s demands to control the school’s administration, faculty hiring, student body composition and university curricula. The Trump administration has yanked research funding in an attempt to starve Harvard out and threatened its nonprofit status, and Harvard earlier responded with a federal lawsuit. Fast forward to Thursday. Department of Homeland Security Secretary and cosplaying fascist gun freak and puppy killer Kristi Noem issued an order terminating the university’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program. In practical terms, that would mean Harvard could no longer enroll international students, who comprise 27 percent of the student body. If left to stand, the order would devastate the school’s community, gut research teams, and send costs soaring for other students. Harvard was ready. Earlier this morning, it filed a 72-page lawsuit in federal court to stop the termination of its program. By now I hope we’ve all experienced enough with the Trump administration to quickly spot the glaring constitutional and legal infirmities of its action on Thursday. But let’s review them today, using the complaint by Harvard as a guide, because it’s likely to come up in the final exam.
Procedural due process violations
Let’s begin with a law we’ve all seen a lot of in the past months that no one outside of administrative law experts should ever have had to read or understand. It’s called the Administrative Procedures Act (APA), the big body of law that governs how federal agencies make and enforce rules and decisions. It takes a certain kind of person and a lot of coffee to wade through it, but basically the APA requires that federal agency actions not be arbitrary or capricious, be made in accordance with law, and be supported by substantial evidence. An agency also can’t take punitive actions unless certain process requirements are met, including fair notice, an opportunity to respond, and consistent application of the rules. That’s a long way of saying that government agencies are bound by procedural due process requirements, as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment. And guess what? To no one’s surprise, DHS didn’t follow the APA. Like, at all. Not to get too in the weeds, but under the law (specifically, 8 C.F.R. § 214.4, see how fancy I sound?) if DHS wants to withdraw Harvard’s right to issue visas to international students, there’s a process in place for that. It issues a notice, the school has 30 days to respond, and then it provides a written decision that includes its reasoning. Then there’s a chance for an administrative appeal challenging the stated reasons.
That’s all pretty straight forward, but Secretary Noem followed none of that. She thinks her job is to dress the part and own the libs, not to actually follow laws and procedures. But now she’ll have to answer in court for why DHS skipped past all of this and went straight to revocation of Harvard’s certification to host and enroll international students. This goes to the heart of what’s wrong here. Noem’s order was a textbook example of arbitrary and capricious action. It lacked any justification. And the White House made clear in public statements that the move was retaliatory in nature. After all, the administration just wants to stick it to the university. And while that might get MAGA all tingly, it’s not going to impress the federal courts. Noem tried to create “filler” to back up her order by alleging Harvard failed to respond to document requests, but Harvard argues that the request (such as all documents relating to “dangerous or violent activity” by international students) exceeded what the government was permitted to request under its own rules. Harvard shouldn’t have to respond to requests that lie beyond the Department’s authority to make in the first place. And even if the APA didn’t exist or apply—a big if—the conduct by the government would be a procedural due process violation of the U.S. Constitution, which under the Fifth Amendment prohibits the federal government from depriving the school of something of great value (here, its international student body) without due process of law.
Unlawful retaliation and unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination
DHS announced it took action because it disagrees with how Harvard runs its curricula and self-governs its campus. Let’s stop for a moment and consider how extraordinary and un-American that very idea is. The government is actively intruding upon the decision-making of a private educational institution and throwing its weight around to force conformity to its own agenda. Sounds pretty communist to me. (Every accusation is a confession: This is an administration that urges anti-consumerism to protect the state, threatens price controls on private industry, and demands academic adherence to official propaganda.)
[...]
The bigger backdrop
The revocation of Harvard’s right to host and enroll international students is part of a full scale attack upon the international student community generally. We’ve seen graduate students, who are here legally, face arrest and deportation because of their political viewpoints. And we’ve seen student visas cancelled en masse, without the knowledge of the students affected, rendering them immediately deportable if detained. That came to a screeching halt yesterday, at least for now. By no small coincidence, minutes after Noem’s order on Harvard issued, a federal judge in California issued an injunction blocking the revocation of the legal status of international students nationwide, including at Harvard.
U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey S. White in Oakland not only blocked the termination of visas of international students, he enjoined the government from arresting or detaining any foreign-born students on the basis of their immigration status while the case moved forward.
Happy to see Harvard University fight back against Gestapo leader Kristi Noem’s insane directive to end the university’s ability to host international students. Even better, the courts gave a TRO to stop this nonsense.

The 2nd Trump admin so far---simplified edition---
I saw a post on reddit asking what Trump has done so far, but my reply was too long, so I thought it'd be worth adding here instead
Main points are emboldened, sub points/related actions are italicized→
1. Instated tariffs(taxes on companies when they import goods and products from foreign countries into the US) on all countries except for North Korea and Russia. These tariffs have caused markets to plunge and have raised prices greatly for just about all products in the US. The way that works is that, many people have the misconceptions that tariffs are a tax on foreign governments, but that is not the case. They are a tax on companies importing products made in specific foreign countries to the US. These companies, to make up for the loss of money from the tax, raise their product prices---therefore, the buyers, Americans, have to pay 200 more dollars for their iphone that was fabricated in Taiwan, and 10 more for their coffee, the beans that were used to make it being able to be grown almost exclusively in equatorial countries. Raising product prices is also cheaper than bringing their(tariffed companies') manufacturing force back to the US. The tariffs have also been placed on countries with incredibly small populations, such as McDonald island, with a population of 0. There are now fears of a recession, or historic depression, as we are more than likely to lose these trades wars.
Trumps ideas on tariffs are inspired by the books of Peter Navarro(a man who has also worked as an advisor for him), whose main source for the information in his books is Ron Vara, a fake person Navarro created to put into the resource sections of his books so his information would appear as if sourced from a real economist or historian, and not his own head.
2. Created ICE, an organization that raids locations where they suspect illegal immigrants are. These places can include homes, schools, offices, etc. So far, it has deported several people wrongly, such as a Maryland man, who specifically was ruled not to be deported, as he had escaped to the US from South America after being threated by gangs there. It has also defied court orders from judges to return planes carrying immigrants. Trump has also changed laws that allowed many foreigners to enter the country legally for years now, to make it so that, anyone who had entered the country in those ways in the past, are now illegals to be deported. They have also created a point system, where, if an individual gets 8pts, they can be deported, which has lead to the wrong deportation of a gay barber who had two tattoos on either of his arms of crowns, which earned him 4pts each.
These people are not detained or allowed to contact their lawyers when they are taken. They are immediately deported, without due process(The rule of law, for example, getting to speak to lawyers/getting a court hearing/getting thorough investigations or background checks before being deported). It has also been found that ICE has detained people and kept them in their(ICE's) vehicles before drafting the documents for their reason for detaining. Many on the left fear that soon a native American citizen will be racially profiled and deported to country they've never been to. Denying due process for anyone on US soil is illegal and unconstitutional.
3. (somewhat related to ICE)Detained/Inhumanely detained foreign travelers(NON-immigrants) who attempt entering the US legally. For example, an Australian MMA coach and youtuber visiting the US for a seminar who had a slight mistake in his VISA, who was kept in a federal prison directly among actual criminals for 24 hours. Some of the guards spoke to him as if he were a criminal, and he got involved in a fight with an inmate attempting to steal his(the MMA coach's) items. He details the story of his experience on his Instagram account: coachsubotic. Or a French scientist who was detained and denied entry for having messages criticizing Trump on his phone.
and
Detained immigrant young people who have insulted the administration or have openly supported the liberation of Palestine, justice for Palestinian civilians, and end of the genocide(ethnic cleansing/mass murder of a certain people group) of Palestinians. For example, a Turkish woman who travelled to the US to get an education, who was kidnapped off the sidewalk by police officers wearing masks because of a plead in an article written by her, asking the US government to consider divesting(un-investing) in Israel. Her plead was deemed "support for Hamas" and her VISA was revoked without her being notified. She was taken from Massachusetts to Louisiana. At one point, her lawyers had no way of knowing where she was located, and therefore, no idea what jurisdiction she was under for them to make a petition for her VISA to be reapproved. Or a Chinese student who came to the US when she was 7 years old who got her green card revoked for having attended peaceful protests fighting against the expulsion of students who had publicly defended Palestine.
4. Created a crypto-currency rug-pull(also known as coins, meme-coins, or shit-coins) called $TRUMP. Its somewhat complicated to explain what a crypto-currency is from the start, but to put it simply, there things that people can invest their money into, just like stocks, and a rug-pull is when the creator of the crypto-currency 'pulls out', which is a way of stealing all the money that investors invested.
5. Pardoned January 6th, 2021 rioters who broke into and vandalized the capitol building. Many officers were assaulted by rioters that day. The capitol building itself had to undergo heavy repairs. Trump incited this riot because he did not accept the result of the 2020 election and believes it was stolen and fraudulent. Rioting and riot incitation is illegal.
6. Threatened to annex Canada, Greenland, and the Panama canal.
Threatened to annex Canada: This has eroded the relationship of the two most culturally similar and closest allied nations in history. There isn't anything in particular the US would gain from this besides population, land area, and some negligible natural resources such as more snow or plants that probably only in that biome.
Threatened to annex Greenland: This is because Greenland is, despite being enlarged by the common map projection(ways that a spherical globe is broken and stretched to be placed on a rectangular map), a relatively sizeable landmass in a good geo-political location on earth, and, as global warming continues and more parts of Artic Ocean melt away and open up, Russia and the US(Canada rather, though next is us) have a direct northern route to each other. Because of this, Trump wants to annex Greenland, a Danish territory currently seeking sovereignty(independence). Typically, countries would just place military bases in a sovereign point of interest like this (for example, all the US military bases in the Philippines, Japan, and just about every country surrounding Eastern China) so it is atypical to imperialize in the Contemporary era for this reason.
The Panama canal has been taken. The background to this is imperial desire is that originally, the US helped Panama gain independence from Colombia in the early 1900's specifically to build the Panama canal.
This(alongside the trade wars) has caused almost all countries on Earth to lose a centuries worth of trust we had earned, and eroded American hegemony(dominance/significance in the world).
7. Not attended the transfer of the bodies of four American soldiers(Dignified transfer) who died during training in Lithuania back to the US. Presidents typically attend dignified transfers as a way of honoring the men who have fallen for the sake of the country.
8. Banned Trans people from participating in the military and asked for anyone experiencing gender dysphoria(dissatisfaction with ones own gender at birth and belief that ones gender at birth, also known as biological sex, is not the same as their gender, or gender expression) to leave. This means trans Americans will no longer get the chance to serve their country or gain the military benefits that every other able-bodied American can if they so choose.
9. Discussed a 3rd Presidential term multiple times. Serving more than 2 presidential terms is illegal and unconstitutional.
10. Ruled that there are only two genders in the United States, that women are females, and that females are "person[s] belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell" and men are males, and males are "person[s] belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the small reproductive cell". This means that everyone in the United States is Agender(Genderless) as no human being has either large or small reproductive cells at conception(though, people often make the joke that 'everyone is female' as the tissue there looks akin to a female reproductive cell early on).
11. Changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to 'The Gulf of America', and the name of Mt. Diwali(The name the native peoples gave it, and that we've recognized as a way of respecting them) to 'Mt. McKinley.'
12. Allowed a civilian without clearance to enter official meetings. Allowed a civilian who was not approved by Congress to handle a government department. This civilian stayed in the country illegally, defying the constraints of his VISA, and is therefore an illegal immigrant. This civilian has about 500 billion dollars in his bank account.
13. (Adjacent, but significant)DOGE(Department of Government Efficiency):
One of the first things they did was fire hundreds of FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) employees, who keep planes in the air and organized. There has now been an uptick in plane close calls and mishaps, such as a plane flipping and landing upside-down. They have also defunded the national parks, which bring in magnitudes more than the amount that is spent on them. They have also defunded science research, such as research for curing cancer and making cancer aid more efficient. They also made cuts to social security(tax money allocated to aid Americans in their old age).
Hundreds of employees from other departments and gov. funded sectors have also been fired, re-hired, and paid for their time away, meaning a loss of thousands of peoples worth of money for time where they were not allowed to work, therefore, money was spent on work that that was not done, and unnecessarily not allowed to have been done.
14. Allowed Bibles to be required to be present in all classrooms and effectively rendered the point of public schooling void, as public schools exist specifically to be inclusive to all students and not encourage only one identity. So far, this is only the case in Oklahoma, but the fed has yet to declare it unconstitutional and force the requirement to be dissolved. This defies one of the founding American principles of separating church and state. It is illegal and unconstitutional to involve the church with the state.
15. Removed DEI(Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) laws, which have historically existed to fight against discrimination, primarily racial(intentional and unconscious racial biases), in the job hiring process, and to fight against discrimination in the work place. Often before DEI, people with high merits and achievements were not hired due to conscious or unconscious racial biases. This means those racial, among other biases, will begin affecting people searching for employment once again.
16. Taken down government website pages of significant historical American figures who are minorities, such as famous baseball player Jackie Robinson. They have also taken down the Spanish version of the white house site.
17. Made voting and updating social security more difficult for the disabled. Now people, including the elderly and disabled(for example, an elderly man who DOGE employees decided was dead who had to drive a long distance to reassure that he was alive,) have to travel to voting offices and social security offices to vote and make sure their social security is intact.
Many of these laws have directly been caused by Trump using executive orders, which have yet to be deemed as going beyond his executive power or not. A loophole in the Constitution is that, there are no constitutional enforcements of judges orders, therefore the things judges deem only follow through if people in the government recognize it, which is why nothing has occurred to Trump or his appointees for the mentioned crimes, pre 2nd admin crimes, pre 1st admin crimes, and the following crimes.
---Adjacent---
1. Hegseth(one of the people Trump appointed) created a group chat on a non government messaging site called 'Signal' and discussed classified information with other high government individuals. We know this because he accidentally added a reporter, Jeffrey Goldberg, to the group. Only government messaging sites are allowed for classified messaging. He was also recently found to be doing classified messaging on Gmail. Insecure messaging such as these, especially google, can be hacked or accessed by foreign intelligence. Classified messaging on non-government channels is illegal.
2. His wife has a rug-pull of her own as well, $MELANIA.
3. Elon Musk(one of the people trump approved, who was not appointed by Congress) raised a sieg heil(a hand signal, where the arm is raised forward, pointing straight, at an angle. The hand signal supports the Third Reich, also known as Nazi Germany). The hand sign is debated to be intentional or accidental. He has also been supporting AfD, a neo-Nazi party in Germany that is essentially revising history and downplaying the Holocaust.
4. R.F.K(one of the people Trump appointed) has indirectly caused the first measles death in the US since 2015 with his anti-vaccine rhetoric.

Its a basic one since i only wanted to make a proper color reference for him
VERY simplified and Brief backstory go boom chika boom (2x):
Savvy Melagcolia, legal name Samuel Morris, was a former employee working at the ASYNC foundation and responsible for exploring the depths of the Backrooms that corporation thoroughly researched on.
In one of his shifts, being assigned along with his team to traverse the complex as one of their everyday expeditions, during the operation, Samuel unfortunately encountered a Partygoer/Entity 67 and was caught in its grasp. Thus being infected.
Luckily however, because of the long infection process of a Partygoer, he broke free of its grip and ran as far as his tired feet could get him.
Alone and scared, he laid down on the floors of the labyrinth and waited for someone to save him to no avail.
Though, because of the remaining poison left in his body, it wasnt enough to turn him into a partygoer but it was enough to turn him into one mentally.
With no hope left, it was over for little Sammy. And so was his fate.
When he woke up, it was not him anymore but someone entirely different. And that's when he was finally found by someone quite special.

Note
Since you sent me an ask, I'll send one back! <:) Particularly in reference to your fic, how do you organize things? Do you write whatever you think in the moment and refine later or do you plan things out thoroughly before approaching your chapter? You use a lot of different alignment settings and bold/italics to convey different emotions, memories, etc-- Do you write everything out like that as you type or add those details later? Your writing style has always really amazed and inspired me, it's super unique and has left a lasting impression on my own writing! I'd love to hear more about your process!!! :D Thank you in advance!!!!
PREPARE FOR LONG- first of all that's incredibly kind of you and means a lot to me; i am pretty self conscious about my work because basically everything i do starts as a very big feeling i am having and it is kind of hard to understand inside of the process what it comes across as
to keep a dash tidy- a break
I make pretty rough but silly bullet points to get an outline- this is part of chapter four's outline (when I started doing outlines, the first three chapters just kind of happened in a fugue state lololol)
Tumblr media
part of it is that it being silly helps vomit it out, like some of it is WILD. I also don't name characters just give them all caps monikers and ctrl+f and replace them (so like fejul was just YELLOWCAT throughout and still sometimes is if i can't remember their name), because that way i don't get stalled on naming someone (it helps the game generates names)
especially since it started as just being a conversation between two very broken people it helped make it not so sad. a lot of it still makes me cry to read let alone write it out. it helped with my grief through
tbh i think part of the process that i go through is very much informed by thinking of the mechanical delivery of the game; thinking about the tension between dehumanization of the player and thus the lamb, the implications of Godhood as the weathering of humanity. i could talk about play theory forever lololol
the alignment is because i have pretty bad adhd and at the time i started writing i was FILLED with ghosts so thoughts were ind of hard to hold- ghosts are a sort of joke among friends of when you get the like i must create feeling, mine lasted about 6 weeks before i decided to post it (and made a tumble a couple of months later). my friends were very kind and put up with me rambling constantly until i did! i even rambled in board meetings and make myself a custom sweater from joking about it being in our minutes. the joke here being is as a nfp our board notes are legally required to be available upon request by like the government or members- so they'd be like wtf why are you talking about blorbos??
Tumblr media
i think it (the ghosts) is mostly done, at least the manic portion of it. there's 30 chapters give or take that are mapped out in various states of done at least the lamb/narinder stuff is mostly done the side plots are kind of still developing hence why i think i am going to take some weeks off so i can figure them out
but it's written like that because it's kind of how i think? everything sort of happens simultaneously- so for narinder in particular in the beginning it's a lot of that where he's overwhelmed by everything. he's going from relative omniscience to a single perspective and that's hard. At this point he's a lot calmer but i think he could probably feel every follicle for a while there
it also helped that i realized narinder is essentially a character i already wrote for my thesis and a lot of it was a reflection of the feelings i had near a decade ago. nothing is canon in cotl, not really, there's just kinf of like little lore puddles; he's pretty far off interpretation for that reason. but the core idea, why does the lamb decide to save him, remains the same from the idea of the hermes i trapped in a box lololol
i didn't know how formatting in ao3 worked- so it's actually WAY more wild and i simplify it. there's also a bunch of stuff i have thought about that i think would be too much- using unicode is probably way too far but also it would be so fuuuun- LIKE if Super God didn't just speak in sub caps but like-
₦⏃☈↟⩀⨵⋶℟
i have always been frustrated having to like fully describe everything so it's a work around for that- a lot of scenes are just dialogue between characters that i add things into later so there's a bit more visual description going on. i hadn't thought of him for a long time, but Michael Ondaatje is a pretty big influence on that i think. i like his work a lot in my memory and the flipping between like very intimate description and vague interpretation i like a lot
this is the longest thing i have ever written; most of the other stuff i have done is short form or just dialogue in a scripting way- or comics. it's also way more long term planned? i have written lots of like 100-500 short stories, i did a project where i wrote 300 (only made it to about 120) short stories and my "i am going to work on a thing" right before these ghosts took me and ran with this was recording them as a binural audio and using conducive headphones to simulate hallucinations with a body horror alternative controller- i wanna finish it but am having fun working on this. i also started rewriting some of them as like little outdoor arts but i got stalled because i had no packing tape and was using scotch tape and it was taking a long time
realizing i am writing this long after adhd meds have long worn off so this is seriously ramble-y
for other things i usually just write and hope it makes enough sense. the last thing i made i wrote inside an ide while programming with yarn spinner- then decided to make my game recursive? it was a nightmare tbh, don't decide halfway through a project to entirely change the format. nor write in an ide while learning a new dialogue manager. this is advice seldom will need but YOU KNOW WHAT- IF YOU NEED IT IT'S IMPORTANT LOLOLOL
my playlist being 60+ hours at this point is also a big method of organization- the songs chosen are often either the emotional perspective or foreshadowing for the future of what will happen. it also helps editing? like what was the vibe was i going for- good old sufjan being so gay for god helps. drawing and making the little comics has helped a lot too- i think it makes it clearer in my mind who's doing what and what's happening. the lamb got a lot more personality from being drawn and a lot of scenes just came out of the fact that their tears are so juicy when i draw them
this project has now become a personal challenge on seeing it through but WOAH- it's been a long 4 months! it's kind of wild to me it is both been that long and i have done so much in 4 months and is a nice confidence boost
i just love monsters so much- have a super god doodle from a sketch series that has too many spoilers on it
Tumblr media
THIS WAS LONG AND I DUNNO IF IT IS HELPFUL? OR MAYBE IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE HELPFUL?? i love talking about process though- i could wax on it forever because i think it's the coolest part of the art making process
i appreciate being asked; i am very chuffed with how it is turning out as i had stopped making art for... 6 years? to the point i thought i never would again and kind of had accepted that. so having something to do and have folks be excited about seeing it honestly makes me so deeply emotional in a nice way

What’s New in Canadian License Renewal Requirements for 2025
Renewing your driver’s license in Canada is a routine task, but in 2025, several provinces have introduced updates aimed at enhancing convenience and security. Whether you're a seasoned driver or approaching your first renewal, staying informed about these changes is crucial. Here's a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in license renewal requirements across Canada.
Ontario: Streamlined Renewals for Seniors
Starting February 3, 2025, Ontario has simplified the renewal process for drivers aged 80 and over. Previously, seniors had to attend separate locations for vision and cognitive assessments before renewing their licenses. Now, these assessments and the renewal can be completed in a single visit at select ServiceOntario centres. By the end of Spring 2025, this service will be available at all ServiceOntario locations across the province .
Tumblr media
Alberta: Emphasis on Residency and Legal Presence
In Alberta, drivers renewing their licenses must provide proof of Alberta residency and Canadian legal presence. This includes documents like utility bills or rental agreements for residency, and a birth certificate or passport for legal presence. If your license has expired for more than six months, these documents become mandatory. Additionally, if your license has been expired for over three years, you'll need to pass written and road tests before a new license is issued .
Quebec: Extended Renewal Deadlines
Quebec has introduced flexibility for drivers whose licenses or vehicle registrations are up for renewal between December 20, 2024, and February 28, 2025. These individuals now have until March 31, 2025, to complete their renewals, providing additional time to meet the requirements .
General Updates Across Provinces
Online Renewals: Many provinces continue to enhance their online renewal platforms, allowing eligible drivers to renew their licenses without visiting service centers. However, certain conditions, such as recent address changes or medical updates, may require in-person visits.
Photo and Signature Updates: Some provinces now require updated photos and signatures every 10 years to maintain accurate identification records. Ensure your photo and signature are current to avoid delays.
Health Card Synchronization: In provinces like Ontario, efforts are underway to synchronize the renewal dates of driver’s licenses and health cards, simplifying the process for residents.
